Engine Performance problem

2000 Chevy Venture  6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 266810 miles

hi i have a 2000 chev venture van that is running rough, i smokes a bit and the cediletic converter glows red, i noticed once you get it running it runs rough you can smell gas when you rev it up hesitates when you let go it idles rough and wants to quit. At first i thought the catillac converter was plugged i drilled some holes in it seem to help the smoking bit and ran a bit better but still rough. Noticed gas in oil and running really rich clean some of the plugs but still doing it and plugs went black again. I was wondering if you could tell me whats going on.
