Noises problem

2003 Chrysler Town and Country  6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 100000 miles

Our vehicle is makes a ratlling noise like a loose bearing.  It makes this noise when it idles and when we are driving. The noise level is inconsistent.  Sometmies louder and sometmies quieter.  It has been suggested that it might be the drive pulley in the laternator. Do you have any other suggestions as to what it might be and how it is fixed.  I am a mechanic and do most of my own repairs.  One associate suggested an overiding clutch.  Any ideas?
