Electrical problem

2005 Chrysler Town and Country  6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 34,000 miles

CRUISE CONTROL WAS SET AT 70 MPH.  SUDDENLY CAR ACCELERATED TO 90.  i HIT THE BRAKES CAR CONTINUED TO GO FASTER.  i HIT THE CRUISE CONTROL CANCEL SWITCH , NO RESULT.  I HAD TO CONSTGANTLY BRAKE TO SLOW THE CAR TO 70.  WHILE CONTINUALLY BRAKING I HIT THE OFF BUTTON, NO CHANGE.  I SLOWED THE CAR TO 50  BY   BRAKING CONSSTANTLY AND EXITED THE HWY.  PROCEDED DOWN THE ROAD .  UNABLE TO STOP AT THE STOP SIGN.  FINALLYWAS ABLE TO STOP CAR BUT ENGINE CONTINUED TO SURGE.  I HIT THESTOP BUTTON AGAIN AND THE ENGINE FINALLY STOPPED .  I CONTINUED MY TRIP W/O CRUISE CONTROL.  I AM AFRAID TO USE THE CRUISE CONTROL AGAIN.
